Braces and Appliances
How
Works In Our Office
You might need to have orthodontic treatment. But it might not be necessary for everyone to know it. Like everything else in modern life, the world of orthodontics is changing. For decades, traditional braces had been the only option for adults who wanted straighter teeth.
offers the first true alternative, by using advances in 3-D imaging technology.
The first transparent comprehensive orthodontic treatment available,
straightens your teeth without wires and brackets by using a series of clear, customized, removable appliances called aligners. You'll wear each aligner for about two weeks, removing them only to eat, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next, your teeth will move—little by little, week by week—until they reach the final alignment.
Many people have a great misunderstanding of how this system works, including some orthodontists who are either complacent about providing new services or are so uneducated about 3-D computer imaging that they simply don't believe it can work.
is for patients who have full tooth development, meaning all their teeth are fully erupted, including their 12 year molars. In practice, that means most older teenagers and adults are candidates for this type of treatment.
Dr. Paquette has the most experience with
in the entire area and is also a member of the Align Technology Alpha Group, a small group of highly respected orthodontists who act as research consultants to help develop and improve treatment with these computer generated marvels.
A common misconception is that aligners can only treat very simple problems, but Dr. Paquette and other more experienced orthodontists are now treating many different problems with
with great success. The success has much to do with having a thorough understanding of the process.
The process begins with a very precise mold of the teeth. That is then transferred into a 3-D digital "virtual" mouth on the computer which allows us to move the teeth to the desired position. In other words, treatment is simulated ahead of time. Dr. Paquette then uses his experience with how teeth react to various movements and incorporates that to anticipate, and hopefully prevent, any potential problems or difficulties in the planned treatment. Once Dr. Paquette has completed the planning process on the computer the aligners are manufactured and delivered to the office for the patient to begin treatment. An in-depth knowledge of the process also gives Dr. Paquette the perspective to properly evaluate treatment progress and make any minor corrections early on to assure treatment success.
Rest assured as new developments evolve, we will continue to offer them to our patients.
